Sydney and Central Coast aged care homes to stay closed to visitors for Father’s Day as CBD clusters grow

1 min read

NSW Health has confirmed restrictions on visitors to aged care homes in Greater Sydney and the NSW Central Coast will remain in place over the weekend, despite the state’s Chief Health Officer saying they would be reviewed ahead of Father’s Day.

“This decision has been reached after careful consideration of the risks of COVID-19 being introduced into an aged care facility while the CBD cluster is brought under control,” it said.

The health authorities said they understood the decision will be difficult for many families over Father’s Day, but emphasised the importance of limiting the spread of the virus in residential care.

“We encourage people to make the best of the COVID safe measures the aged care sector has put in place to make contact with their loved ones, including through audio visual links and window visits,” they added.

NSW recorded eight new cases of COVID on Friday, including three linked to the City Tattersalls Club gym cluster and two to the St Paul’s Catholic College Greystanes cluster, taking those clusters to 57 and 14 people respectively.
