The Queensland government is forcibly pushing aged care out of state government services. The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service is calling for expressions of interest for operators to take over 200 beds at the Eventide Home and their North Rockhampton Nursing Centre. At the same time Metro South Health has announced it will gradually transfer residents of the Morton Bay Nursing Care Unit two nongovernment accommodation and then they will close the buildings. In this case the government says the buildings are in a poor state of repair and beyond their lifespan. They will be closed in 2013. Staff is being offered voluntary redundancy.
