Three new cases in Victoria and no new deaths as number of active cases continues to drop - no COVID positive residents

1 min read

Victoria recorded three new cases on Thursday, bringing the state’s total number of active cases to 76.

At the same point in September the state had 359 active cases (a 78% decrease).

Four of these cases have been linked to aged care.

However, as data from the Victorian Aged Care Response Centre shows, these consist of two staff and two close contacts, meaning there are no aged care residents with an active case.

Metropolitan Melbourne’s 14-day rolling average continued to drop, down to 2.4 from the previous day’s total of 2.7, and regional Victoria record a second straight day with an average of 0.

And there were five Victorians in hospital with none in ICU.

“Everyone has got to play a part in this” – Premier Andrews

In his daily press briefing, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has urged businesses to do the right thing in reopening and sticking to COVID-safe rules after reports that not all were following the requirements.

“There are fines and they are significant and they will be levied. Everyone has to take this seriously,” he said.

“This is everybody's business because if you do not do the right thing in your shop, in your setting, in choices that you make, whether you be a customer, a worker or a business owner, then you are putting everyone at risk.”
