SA’s Lutheran Homes Group expands into Victoria with two regional retirement village and aged care home acquisitions

1 min read

Adelaide-based aged care, home care, and retirement living provider Lutheran Homes Group (LHG) is expanding beyond South Australia for the first time, acquiring two stand-alone Lutheran aged care and retirement village communities in regional Victoria.

From 1 June 2025, Sunnyside Lutheran Retirement Village (pictured below) in Horsham, 300km northwest of Melbourne, and Eventide Lutheran Homes & Hamilton Village in Hamilton, 295km west of the Victorian capital, will officially become Lutheran Homes Group Horsham and Lutheran Homes Group Hamilton.

The acquisition adds 184 independent living units and 134 residential aged care beds to LHG’s portfolio, increasing its footprint to more than 2,000 residents and over 1,300 staff and volunteers across six sites.

LHG Chief Executive Officer Tim Chia (pictured top) said the move reflects the Not For Profit’s focus on delivering quality aged care where the need is growing fastest.

“LHG has grown significantly in recent years, and this expansion reflects our long-term commitment to delivering exceptional aged care services in both metropolitan and regional communities,” he stated.

LHG was formed in 2022 through the merger of Adelaide’s two largest Lutheran aged care providers – LHI Retirement Services and Fullarton Lutheran Homes. At the time, the merger was positioned as a foundation for further growth, particularly by welcoming smaller regional Lutheran providers into the group.

The acquisition follows a two-year review by the Lutheran Church of Australia’s Victorian District (LCAVD), which in July 2024 recommended appointing a new Approved Provider for both communities to align with the upcoming reforms under the new Aged Care Act.

LHG has pledged a multi-million-dollar investment in upgrading infrastructure and supporting workforce development at both sites. Consultation with staff and residents is already underway to ensure a smooth transition. The move is also part of LHG’s broader capital works strategy, which includes refurbishments at its Glynde and Hope Valley campuses in Adelaide, and a major masterplanned redevelopment at its Fullarton site.
