Aged care provision part of Council’s masterplans for land surrounding Blacktown Hospital in Sydney’s West

With stage one and two of the $700 million redevelopment of Blacktown Hospital, 34km west of Sydney’s CBD, complete, the local Council has unveiled a series of masterplans for the land surrounding the site.

Currently a residential area, the plan is to transform it into a “higher density, mixed use” precinct featuring a series of residential apartments, hospital services, medical practices, assisted living, and aged care, together with cafes, carparking and shops. Five to 10-storey buildings would be allowed.

“The Precinct is a key Transformation Project for Blacktown City,” a planner for a major project told News Corporation.

“It will provide space for health and allied health development and allow the expansion of health and allied services to meet the demand of the growing population.”

Under the plans the land used by Blacktown Bowling Club and about 22 homes will be needed.

In March, NSW Planning issued the project a Gateway determination, which is a checkpoint to review whether a planning proposal should proceed to public exhibition, after support from the local council.
