INXS manager Chris Murphy planning Ballina (NSW) retirement village

1 min read

The 64-year-old rock’n’roll veteran (pictured above) has put forward a plan to Ballina Shire Council (35 kilometres south of Byron Bay), to build a large master-planned precinct on a vacant 36-hectare site opposite Ballina airport – which would include a retirement village, ‘creative hub’ and an INXS museum.

An official development application for the project has not yet been submitted, however the estimated cost of preparing the “swampy” farmland for any major construction is roughly $15 million.

"Ballina has the opportunity to be one of the leading councils in the world by setting up a pre-planned precinct that has all the community elements, young people living there, older people living there, and this creative hub, the X Building, in the middle," Mr Murphy told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Local mayor David Wright says the plans are currently “just talk” but has also endorsed the potential development.
