COVID-19: how many cases are there in aged care, home care, retirement villages and LLCs?

1 min read

Cases of coronavirus in Australia’s aged care homes and the wider community have continued to grow, albeit slowly in line with the deceleration in the number of positive cases.

Take a look at the graph from the Department of Health above.

Since last Tuesday, the Department has only confirmed two more positive cases in aged care homes – an increase to 27 cases across Australia with the majority (25) in NSW).

However, nine residents have now passed away from the virus with only five recorded as recorded.

In home care, the number of positive cases has jumped from seven last week to 18 this week with one death now recorded in Tasmania.

There have also been more cases reported in retirement villages with a resident at Anglicare’s St Lukes village in Dapto near Wollongong testing positive.

Anglicare’s Newmarch House in Caddens, 45km west of the Sydney CBD, is also in lockdown after a staff member tested positive after working six shifts at the home and another disability service in Leura.

Australia’s numbers are still far lower than other countries however – the US reportedly now has over 2,600 positive cases in its aged care homes with far more predicted to be undiagnosed.
