US: Californian Govt accuses two nursing homes of abandoning residents during 2017 wildfires

1 min read

Its Department of Social Services is now trying to close the facilities, which are located in the wealthy area of Fountaingrove near Santa Rosa and strip the managers of their licenses after filing a legal complaint.

The Department has accused the staff of being unprepared and leaving before everyone was taken to safety. According to their report, the last staff at one home vacated the facility sometime after 3am – leaving family members and emergency medical workers to evacuate the remaining 20 residents, many of them unable to walk and having dementia.

The facility later burnt to the ground – meaning the 20 residents would have died if they hadn’t been evacuated.

A justified complaint then.
