WA Labor Government delivers on promise to fast-track transfer of State-owned land and property for new aged care facilities – 1,500 beds in development

1 min read

In 2016, then-Opposition leader Mark McGowan said he would provide land for developers to address the state’s 3,500 unused bed licences in 2016.

Now the Premier is delivering. As we reported here, the Labor Government established a new working group of representatives from the departments of Health, Planning, Lands and Heritage, Local Government and Communities in March to identify under-utilised state-owned land.

Since then, over 30 aged care developments have been assisted through land transfers, rezonings, development approvals and land projects – an estimated 1,500 beds.

This includes two lots at Sunshine Park in Lesmurdie which have been transferred to Burswood Care, a 31-bed home for residents with mental health issues which is owned by WA aged care and village provider Roshana, on the condition they are used or developed for aged care facilities.

A considerable achievement for six months’ work.
