62% of aged care providers now investing in training: Workforce Industry Council

1 min read

The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council (ACWIC) has released a report highlighting 12 key insights into the aged care workforce – and there are some interesting insights.

The Aged Care Workforce Narrative explores data collected from 2009 to 2019 from over 109,000 aged care employees from the Aged Care Census Database, which is produced by BPA Analytics, and offers a much more comprehensive samples than the recent 2020 Workforce Census.

The data shows that most aged care workers now agree that their employer addresses training and skills issues.

While only 50% of employees agreed that there was investment in training at the start of the decade, that rating gradually improved to 62% by 2019.

The report also indicates that the main driver for employees to work in aged care remains the relationship with the resident or client, in front of good location and good reputation.

Pay, management and workload were also cited as the main reasons to leave an organisation.

In short, those operators that can position themselves as an ‘employer of choice’ – with a strong culture and investment in their staff – will come out on top.

The report also includes suggested actions that employers can take to improve staff morale and retention based on the data.

We will be taking a closer look at the 12 Insights – and what they mean for future workforce training and retention – in the next issue of SATURDAY on Training, in your inbox at 6am next Saturday, 6 November.
