69% of Australians support aged care visitor bans, Essential poll commissioned by ACSA shows

1 min read

A sign that the peak body is still fighting for its members on aged care restrictions just yet?

Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) has released a new Essential Research survey –conducted online from 30 April to 3 May and is based on 1,093 respondents – that found only 10% opposed visitor bans. 17% said they neither supported or opposed the bans.

“Australia can be proud of our management of COVID-19 but we can’t get blasé about aged care because this is where our most vulnerable people live,” CEO Patricia Sparrow said.

“We are working through a range of issues with the government and consumer peak organisations negotiating a visitor access code to ensure consistency and clarity. This polling will be a valuable input to that collaborative process.”

We’re guessing ACSA will be putting these results front and centre during this week’s consultation on the Code which is due to start next Monday – just five days away.
