Ms Connolly and her team took out the Media Award at the ceremony last Friday – which is run by the Australian Human Rights Commission to recognise those who promote and protect human rights and freedoms – for their ‘Aged Care: Who Cares?’ investigation which aired in September 2018.

The Commission commended the ABC for exposing “widespread abuse, neglect and inhumane treatment of people living in aged care facilities” and starting “a conversation about age and disability rights as the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was announced”.

Ms Connolly’s team also took home the Walkley award for Public Service Journalism for the two-part program last month.
