ACWIC urges stakeholders to have their say in workforce reform

1 min read

The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council (ACWIC) is inviting aged care stakeholders – including providers, workers and recipients – to have their say on the future job infrastructure of the sector.

ACWIC has launched a series of online surveys on redesigning the sector, and plans for more engagement including webinars in the future; CEO Louise O’Neill (pictured) is urging as many stakeholders as possible to take part, with the aim of identifying new roles that will be needed to meet needs and expectations.

“While it’s important that we hear from a broad range of aged care providers, workers, people receiving care and others in the sector, we are trying not to further burden the sector during the pandemic.

“This is one of the strategic actions set out in Australia’s aged care workforce strategy, A Matter of Care. It’s not a quick fix, but it’s an integral step towards improving the sustainability of the sector in the medium to long term,” she said.

Professional services firm BDO Australia has been contracted to assist with the project.

“BDO will collate the data from the consultation process to capture ideas for future roles and structures for the aged care workforce and combine that information with the results of its literature review of national and international aged care workforce trends.

“Setting out these jobs of the future will be integral to ensuring that aged care meets the needs of the next generation of older Australians, readying our workforce to provide truly holistic services,” Ms O’Neill told The Weekly SOURCE.

More details are available on the ACWIC website.
