The new wave of consumer advocacy: Local residents have been campaigning against the planned sale of 11ha of land at the North Lakes Resort Golf Club to Michael and Justin Harrison’s The Village Retirement Group for a village and aged care development since it was announced in July.
Now they have taken their campaign up a notch, hiring land and environment experts from legal and advisory firm HopgoodGanim to advise them on objecting to the development application when it is formally lodged.
This is despite the Harrisons’ retirement villages having won multiple prestigious national awards for best residential development.
Yet another case of the increased sophistication of advocacy groups going the extra mile to oppose developments in their backyard.
