Aged Care Royal Commission calls for submissions on impact of COVID-19 on aged care homes

1 min read

A sign that the Commissioners are keeping a close eye on what is happening in the sector?

The Royal Commission into Aged Care has issued a call out submissions from the public and organisations relating to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the aged care sector.

You can read the full release here.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all aspects of Australia’s economy and society, including the delivery of aged care services,” the statement reads.

“In order to understand that impact fully, the Commissioners are seeking the views of those people directly affected.”

The call out include aged care recipients, families and supporters, providers and staff.

The statement recognises that many people and providers may not be able to make a submission now because they are caught up in the pandemic – suggesting the 30 June deadline for submission, just two months away, may again shift after it was already extended on 24 March.

There is also a reminder that work has not stopped behind the scenes, with the Commission pledging to release a range of research in the coming months including research papers on:

  • the funding and financing of the aged care sector;
  • public attitudes towards the aged and aged care in Australia;
  • public attitudes to aged care funding;
  • and the financial viability of the sector.

Stay tuned then.
