Aged care to be part of massive 3,500 vertical housing precinct in middle-ring Sydney

If approved, the Ivanhoe Estate in Macquarie Park, 12km from the CBD next to Macquarie University, will feature 1,000 homes for social housing and 128 affordable rental apartments across several 20-storey buildings, plus a 120-bed aged care facility, 141 purpose-built social housing and 132 private independent living units and a wellbeing centre.

The site would also be home to a 1,000 student vertical high school, two 75-place childcare centres, community facilities, public space and a retail centre – all on just 8.2ha.

Developed by Mission Australia Housing and developers Frasers Property Australia and Citta Property Group, it’s the first major project proposed under the NSW Government’s Future Directions initiative and designed to set up a 10-year plan for the state’s social housing scheme.

The development will be built over seven stages and between 10 to 15 years – a huge project and a sign that high-rises are being seen as a viable solution.
