Aged care worker catches nurse assaulting resident with GoPro camera

1 min read

Dana Maree Grey, 59, has pleaded guilty to assaulting the 85-year-old resident, who has dementia, at a North Epping aged care facility last year after footage of the incident was recorded on a GoPro camera placed in the resident’s room, the Daily Telegraph reports.

A co-worker had installed the camera – illegally – after becoming concerned for the welfare of residents and wanting evidence before making a formal report – a commendable move.

Ms Grey, who has worked as a carer for around 17 years, has apologised to the woman’s family, saying she has been diagnosed with a depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.

“I was overdue for holidays and had issues with my health and in my personal life, also not having support when reporting residents’ issues,” she said.

She will be sentenced in August.
