Attention village operators: accountants now offering advice on annual budgets

1 min read

Bishop Collins Chartered Accountants took out this advertising feature in Sunday’s Sun-Herald to spruik their offer, which promises village residents that seeking the advice of an auditor could save them “thousands of dollars a year”.

The firm’s David McClelland and Martin Le Marchant are quoted in the advertorial as saying residents can be taken advantage of by ‘confusing and opaque costs reports from village operators’.

“The attitude of big retirement village companies is often, ‘You’re in our village, just accept what’s going on’. That’s not the way it should be,” Mr McClelland says.

“That’s where we can intervene on their behalf, take the pressure off and have incorrect charges removed to reduce their annual charges,” Mr Marchant adds.

They are offering residents a confidential discussion if residents are confused by annual budgets, financial reports and the allocation of management fees and shared costs.

A clear-cut case of ‘cashing in’ on the recent negative media coverage of retirement villages we say.
