New software aims to cut unproductive aged care training by 40%
Healthcare education provider Ausmed has launched a new feature aimed at helping operators reduce training fatigue, administrative burden, and low engagement.
Ausmed’s new software tool – Knowledge Verification (KV) – pre-assesses staff for training, helping organisations evaluate true comprehension and identify gaps.
“This feature is going live across our entire customer base in the coming month,” CEO Will Egan told The Weekly SOURCE.
"Early indications suggest a 40% reduction in training time when Knowledge Verification is running."
A participant in the KV trial highlighted the benefit of the tool.
“I love that I got to show that I already knew the topic before having to watch something that I already knew,” the participant said.

Ausmed said the tool is designed to help organisations better understand workforce capability, ensuring staff are not retrained in areas where they are already proficient, while directing training to where it is needed most.
“Given the cost allocated to training, organisations need to be able to measure if training is actually effective,” said Zoe Youl, Head of Learning and Capability with Ausmed.
“We built KV to give providers that confidence. It’s evaluation data that an organisation can use to gain a true picture of what their team actually knows.
“What I love about KV is that it helps identify areas of strength and gaps. This means time saved can be used to provide targeted training in areas that are needed most.”
KV is not intended to replace workplace observational learning or direct skill assessment, but to provide an evaluation data point for training effectiveness – and ultimately, improve training outcomes.
How it works
If enabled on a training module, KV presents users with a randomised set of questions to evaluate their knowledge. If the user meets a minimum pass rate, their learning is marked as completed. If gaps are identified, they proceed to complete the training module.
Maximising workforce capacity has never been more critical in the aged care sector right now. Residential aged care operators are striving to meet mandatory care minute targets, while home care operators are grappling with rising costs, exacerbated by the ongoing fuel crisis.
KV provides operators with a purpose-built mechanism to eliminate unproductive training hours.
Data to improve training effectiveness
Key features of KV include:
- Assessment across recall, comprehension, and application questions
- Questions map to learning outcomes
- Randomised questions to reduce ‘gaming the system’
- Questions have clear rationales to support knowledge retention
