AXA Insurance surveyed 15,000 people across 26 countries to discover that Australians have the most optimistic retirement outlook in the world. We want to retire at 57 and expect to live to 80. We also want to retire here but if we have to nominate an overseas country we nominate New Zealand. The rest of the world agrees, with Australia the most popular foreign retirement destination followed by Switzerland and the US. Part of the reason we expect to enjoy our later years is that only 54% of us expect to leave an inheritance for the kids.
