BHC’s Arbor Sherwood picks up prestigious development award

1 min read

Brisbane Housing Company’s (BHC) Arbor Sherwood retirement village has won the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s Mitchell Brandtman Award for Excellence in the Seniors Living category.

The 52-unit vertical development, designed by Peddle Thorp Architects, recently celebrated full occupancy across its one-bedroom with study and two-bedroom apartments.

Its finance model – which combines deposits with regular fees to bring down costs – is designed to make retirement living affordable over the long-term, according to BHC.

“Arbor Sherwood is a welcome change in the market that allows Australian’s to ease into their retirement, in a more financially flexible manner that is suitable to their personal needs.

“We are proud of the community that has formed at the Village, and we are committed to making retirement living accessible for those that need it,” the operator said.

According to its website, UDIA Queensland requires entrants in the category:

  • provide particular attention to the needs of residents who have retired or are approaching retirement age
  • present a high standard of overall design and create a sense of place
  • have regard for an energy and water efficient lifestyle
