Bolton Clarke’s Allity gains approval to build a new aged care facility in Parramatta

Private operator Allity, which was acquired by Not for Profit Bolton Clarke earlier this year, has been given approval to build a three-storey 108-bed aged home on the site of its Brentwood Nursing Home in Parramatta, 24km west of Sydney’s CBD.

Brentwood, which is about 50 years old, offers 78 single and double rooms overlooking open gardens and parklands.

Parramatta City’s Planning Panel unanimously approved Allity and Ethos Urban’s plan which includes 40 aged care beds plus 68 dementia support beds. There will be a communal living area at the top of the building, dining and lounge areas.

Ethos Urban director Tom Goode, who spoke on behalf of Allity, said the plans – lodged with Council in June last year – had gone through several changes.

He said the building’s height now complies with Council guidelines and the top floor has been converted from beds into a common room to allay privacy concerns. The frontage was also reduced.

The proposal has a number of “significant benefits”, according to the local planning panel.

“Specifically, it will support ageing in place, allowing the members of the local and wider community access to aged care services in an accessible location with the majority of beds being affordable concessional beds.

“The proposal also delivers an innovative architectural design that integrates with the local area without having any adverse impacts on adjacent properties or environmental constraints,” the panel said.
