Dept of Health prompts consumers to start home care package research with new letter – is this smart?

1 min read

The letter will be sent around three months before consumers are expected to be assigned a home care package advising them to:

  • Start researching service providers;
  • Contact My Aged Care to opt-out of the queue if they are not actively seeking a home care package at the time they receive the letter; and
  • Arrange an income assessment through the Department of Human Services to know what they might be asked to pay.

No surprise the Federal Government is pushing to get people into home care packages. But as we reported here, the waiting list for packages is now over 104,000 with around 28,000 consumers waiting over a year for a Level four package.

These people searching will be alerted early to the frustration that packages are rare – to say the least.
