Federal Court judge to replace Honourable Justice Joseph McGrath as Aged Care Royal Commissioner – inaugural hearing in five weeks – set for 18 January 2019

The Honourable Richard Tracey AM RFD QC has been appointed as a Commissioner for the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety after Honourable Justice Joseph McGrath was forced to revoke his Commission due to family reasons.

Mr Tracey served as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia for 12 years until August this year and has also been President of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal and Judge Advocate General for the Australian Defence Force.

He will join fellow Commissioner Lynelle Briggs AO.

The Government says there will be no impact on the tight timeframe for the Commission which officially begins in five weeks with the inaugural hearing to take place in Adelaide on 18 January 2019.
