Fire crews arrived at the Queen Victoria aged care home in Lindisfarne, 6km from the Hobart CBD, within 10 minutes after the fire started in a bathroom last week.
No one was hurt in the blaze, but some residents were relocated elsewhere in the building.
A reminder that safety is a key part of village and aged care manager roles – and even a regular maintenance schedule doesn’t always prevent incidents.
As we reported here in March, fire destroyed a recreational building at the Blue Hills retirement village in Melbourne. The suspected cause was a ball bearing in the ceiling’s dehumidifier which was checked on a monthly basis.
