Australia paid tribute to the aged care workforce on Aged Care Employee Day last Friday.

Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) was joined by ACSA, Aged Care Guild, Anglicare Australia, Baptist Care Australia, Catholic Health Australia and UnitingCare Australia to acknowledge the 360,000 staff who care for more than 1.3 million older Australians.

LASA also released a video, which you can see here, with some of the key government and industry figures paying tribute to aged care workers.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt led the salutes.

“Aged Care Employee Day is an important day in any year. This year with the hardships of COVID and the challenges we’re facing your (aged care workers) work is extraordinary,” Mr Hunt said.

“As you take care of older Australians who are most vulnerable in the time of coronavirus, I simply want to say thank you.”

Mr Hunt was joined by Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians Senator Richard Colbeck, Minister for Indigenous Australians Ken Wyatt and Leader of the Australian Labor Party Anthony Albenese among others.
