HyeCare brings new private aged care offering to life
HyeCare opens with integrated private aged care model
- First resident: Opening reunites couple after two years apart
- Premium model: Private aged care priced at ~$110k annually
- Integrated living: Aged care co-located within retirement village
- Growing trend: Private aged care emerging as extension of retirement living
HyeCare’s first resident will move in to join his wife, who lives in the adjacent Hyegrove retirement village, reuniting the couple under one roof for the first time in two years.
HyeCare is a 47-room private aged care facility that operates under the Retirement Village Act. The home is located within the 111-apartment Hyegrove Willoughby retirement village, 8km from the Sydney CBD, which opened in late 2025 following a decade of planning.
As private aged care, HyeCare residents pay fees of $320 per day – or around $110,000 per annum – which can be supplemented by Support at Home packages. Services include meals prepared on site daily, hotel services, and RNs on site 24/7 with care staff available too.
Patrick Abolakian is the CEO of HyeCare and Hyegrove Willoughby, and a member of the Abolakian family, which founded property developer HyeCorp more than 25 years ago.
In March this year, DCM Group toured the site in Willoughby, and Patrick shared his commitment to this project.
“I am acutely aware that I am opening a 24/7 business and I will be responsible for it for the rest of my life," he said.
An absolute joy
On welcoming HyeCare’s first resident, Patrick said: “It has been an absolute joy. It’s a very special time for our team and everyone involved.
“For the couple to be able to have their lunch together here, to have coffee together, and for that to be a daily occurrence, that’s exactly why we created HyeCare and that’s why we’re here today.”
All Hyegrove and HyeCare residents can access all areas of the site, including the pool, gym, arts and craft room, and cinema.
“We’ve designed a really integrated all-inclusive facility here,” said Patrick.

Private aged care no longer niche
Private aged care is increasingly being recognised as an essential extension of retirement living. The shift is being driven in part by necessity, as retirement village populations age and traditional residential aged care facilities reach capacity.
Paul Browne, with LDK Seniors’ Living developments in Sydney and Canberra, was the pioneer of the private aged care model. Since then, operators such as Phil Usher’s Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities on the Gold Coast.
