LASA calls for today to be ‘National Day of Action’ for aged care

1 min read

The peak body is urging aged care providers, staff, residents and families to come together today (Tuesday 14 May) to take part in a National Day of Action.

As we reported here, LASA launched its awareness campaign, ‘I Care for Aged Care’ in March of this year, urging politicians to address the funding emergency in residential aged the excessive home care wait list for older Australians, and investment in aged care workforce growth and development.

The campaign also calls for elevation of the responsible minister to the Cabinet alongside the creation of a comprehensive “national ageing well strategy.”

LASA CEO, Sean Rooney, says aged care had been largely ignored by the major parties in the federal election campaign despite both sides saying they are committed to making the aged care system better.

Labor has since responded – in part. See the below story.
