  • Future demand: Project expands retirement living on the Sunshine Coast

BlueCare’s first new retirement village in 13 years is set to enter its next phase.

An official sod-turning ceremony at BlueCare’s Bokarina Beach Village in Wurtulla marked the start of construction, with representatives from UnitingCare Queensland, operator of BlueCare, project partners, community leaders and Queensland Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie attending.

The Sunshine Coast development will be delivered in stages, beginning with 28 beach houses designed for retirement living. A further 234 apartments are planned for future stages.

Plans for the village also include shared community facilities and landscaped outdoor areas.

UnitingCare Queensland Chief Executive Officer Ben Edwards said Bokarina Beach Village would help meet growing demand for quality retirement living on the Sunshine Coast.

“Bokarina Beach Village is about more than new homes, it’s about the kind of community people genuinely want to live in - where they can stay independent, connected, and enjoy life,” he said.
“Residents will be able to start their day with a walk to the beach, meet friends for coffee, take part in wellness and recreation activities, and return home to low-maintenance living designed to support their independence for years to come.”

Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie, said the project would contribute to housing diversity and support the growing Sunshine Coast Community.

“This development will provide greater housing choice on the Sunshine Coast, support local jobs during construction and ensure we continue planning for the region’s future with the infrastructure and investment it needs,” he said.
