Not For Profit’s two-storey aged care home rejected by Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal

A plan for a 108-bed aged care home in Ferntree Gully, 30km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD, by the Not For Profit Glengollan Village has been rejected by the Victorian Civil and Administration Tribunal (VCAT).

Glengollan Village had hoped to move its current aged care home for 90 residents, built in 1956, to a new site across the road. However, it was met with opposition by local residents.

Knox City Council had refused to grant a planning permit for the development in May last year.

VCAT found that the applicant’s response to addressing vegetation removal and the subsequent provision of new landscaping that balances the management of bushfire, landscape and waterway management on the site, was “inadequate” and supported the Council’s refusal.

Glengollan Village President Neville Sanders told Star Mail that it was “considering its options”.
