Peaks launch Steering Committee to oversee unification

1 min read

Aged care peaks including Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) and Leading Age Service Australia (LASA) have taken another step towards unification with a new Steering Committee.

The committee met for the first time on February 10, and has representation from ACSA, LASA,
ACRN and faith based peak bodies in the AACC; its purpose is to oversee the design and implementation of the new combined entity.

According to Claerwen Little (pictured), National Director UnitingCare Australia and Chair of the Steering Committee, the sector is under pressure from both the pandemic and industry reforms.

“The opportunity to reset and transform the sector’s representation must be seized if we are to dare to dream of a vibrant, trusted and sustainable aged services sector that enhances the wellbeing of older Australians.

“The process we have embarked on will create lasting and positive impact for the sector and older Australians. Whilst this process is underway, we will continue to keep the pressure on the Federal Government to ensure the Royal Commission’s recommendations are implemented in full and older Australians receive the care they need and deserve,” she said.

ACSA and LASA announced the new peak body in December 2021; if members vote in favour, it is expected to be operational by the middle of this year.
