Prison crime ring busted using aged care homes’ laundry to smuggle contraband

1 min read

Inmates at VIC’s Port Phillip Prison have been using dirty laundry collected from aged care facilities across Melbourne to smuggle in drugs, tech gear and tobacco, according to the Herald Sun.

The laundry is cleaned under contract by the prisoners, but a range of banned items valued at thousands of dollars were found last week during a search of “linen and garments”.

It’s believed the items were put together after orders were placed by a large group of inmates, with one inmate moved to another prison in Geelong following the discovery.
