QLD nurse who worked at Government-run aged care home while positive for COVID-19 referred to Crime and Corruption Commission – CCC promptly refers case back to Government’s health service

A twist that perhaps the State Government should have seen coming.

As we reported here, the Enrolled Nurse had been working at the North Rockhampton Nursing Centre as a receptionist for two weeks before testing positive for coronavirus, sparking a lockdown of the home and mass testing of residents, staff and the wider community.

The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service which operates the home had referred the woman late last week to the CCC for an alleged breach of public health orders introduced by QLD’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young during the pandemic – a requirement under the orders according to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who said the referral was “just a procedural matter”.

The CCC clearly agrees, saying it has determined after an assessment that the case is a matter for the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service to deal with.

“It is important to note all allegations should be treated as unsubstantiated until a final outcome is reached,” their spokesperson said. “It is not appropriate for the CCC to comment further.”

The nurse has been suspended while investigations are underway and in isolation since her positive test on 14 May.

She appears to have broken her silence however – see the next story.
