QLD records no new COVID-19 cases for first time in 40 days – SA, the ACT and NT also recording lows

81 days since its first case, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says she is “overjoyed” by the new that the state had recorded no new cases of coronavirus – with a total of 1,019 confirmed cases on Sunday.

“From our large population in Queensland – nearly 5 million people – to have zero cases, it’s been I think around 81 days since we’ve had that record,” she said.

“If we can keep this up over the coming weeks, I’m sure that that’s going to mean that we’ll be able to make some changes and ease some of those restrictions on the population.”

Other states and territories are also showing signs of flattening the curve with the rate of new cases now falling below 1%.

South Australia, the Northern Territory and the ACT have also notched up no new cases in recent days – with SA recording no new cases since Friday and NT having no new cases for a fortnight.

All three states and territories do have smaller populations, but the trend suggests the Federal Government could be on track to begin easing restrictions by mid-May as promised.

Will this easing of restrictions apply to aged care however?
