Queensland in a frenzy over possible aged care closures by the new Newman government

1 min read

Last week the Queensland government announced the closure of the Eventide Aged Care campus at Brighton on Brisbane’s North Side, consisting of 120 beds. The residents have to be relocated and 69 staff are losing their jobs, according to the Queensland Nurses Union. The Union also says Ashworth House at Zillmere and Cabool at Kippa-Ring have also been flagged for closure. An aged care facility in Rockhampton is also being targeted. The government has made no explanation and no mention was made in last week’s budget estimate hearings.
