Aged care home death investigation takes new turn
- Woman released: Daughter freed without charges after arrest
- Investigation continues: Police awaiting toxicology and post mortem results
- Evidence reviewed: Detectives examining CCTV and forensic evidence
- Coroner to determine: Cause of death remains unknown
A woman has been released after she was arrested last week in Sydney’s western suburbs over the death of her mother in an aged care home.
Emergency services were called to Our Lady of Consolation aged care home in Rooty Hill, 42km west of the Sydney CBD, shortly before midnight last Thursday (25 June), where an 84-year-old woman had been found dead.
NSW Police Detectives spoke to the woman’s 53-year-old daughter, who was at the facility on the night, and she was later arrested and later taken to Mount Druitt Hospital for an assessment.
Detective Superintendent Darrin Batchelor said the younger woman “allegedly administered a substance to the older woman”.
The woman has since been released without charge.
Police are examining evidence collected from the scene, including reviewing security vision and looking at why the younger woman was at the facility late at night.
The woman has no criminal history nor medical training, Detective Batchelor said.
“The woman is being interviewed at this stage. She is being compliant with police,” he said.
Police said the resident had multiple medical conditions.
Detectives are awaiting the results of toxicology testing and a post-mortem examination. A report will be prepared for the Coroner, who will determine the cause of death.
