Queensland’s first LGBTI aged care home set to open doors

Queensland’s first LGBTI aged care home will welcome residents next month in a milestone move to make the sector more inclusive.

Private operator Arcare will offer the 90-room facility nestled in Parkwood in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Arcare CEO Colin Singh told QNews that staff had been trained according to the National LGBTI Health Alliance’s Silver Rainbow aged care training package.

LGBTI elders often voice their concerns about feeling uncomfortable coming out.

The intimacy of being washed, fed and touched by staff can be confronting for all residents, especially for LGBTI elders.
