RetireAustralia’s Newling Gardens raises funds for Lismore flood victims

1 min read

The devasting flood to hit Lismore and the NSW Northern Rivers has touched everyone’s hearts, including those at RetireAustralia’s Newling Gardens village.

Eureka Group’s Cascade Gardens Retirement Village and RSL LifeCare’s Fromelles Manor aged care home had to be evacuated in the flood.

With the latest news that 3,580 buildings are uninhabitable in the Northern Rivers region, which includes the Tweed, Lismore and Ballina areas, residents and staff at the Armidale village have dug deep.

A huge pantechnicon, two trailers and two utilities were required to transport the food, water, bedding, clothing, cleaning materials, toiletries, sanitary items and other emergency supplies to Lismore, which is 325km away. Cash donations were also received, and these will enable further emergency supplies to be sent as they are called for by the recovery authorities.

Newling Gardens had started its own internal appeal before deciding to expand it to include the wider community.
