Ryman lodges plans for big 11-storey vertical retirement village in Melbourne

1 min read

The NZ operator wants to amend an existing permit, which allows a residential mixed-use complex up to 11 storeys, for 389 retirement units and aged care beds on the 1.2ha site of the former Coburg high school.

Ryman’s Corporate Affairs manager David King tells us the new development will feature 106 aged care beds including dementia care, 76 serviced apartments and 207 independent living apartments.

Other amenities will include an indoor swimming pool, movie theatre, café, bar and hair and beauty salons.

According to the Herald Sun, local council had not supported the 11-storey height, but it has been approved by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

The amended proposal will now go before the council’s urban planning committee after community consultation.
