Imagine you had to refurbish a section of one level of an operating hospital as a 20 bed state-of-the-art aged care facility and the brief included not disturbing the diagnostic sleep laboratory on the same floor.
This was the brief to Health and Ageing Project Manager Paynter Dixon by St Luke’s Private Hospital in exclusive Potts Point, Sydney.
The entire area of Level 3 was reconfigured into a 20-bed facility, with ensuites, serving and dining rooms.
And business continuity was essential. Including sleep clinic.
As St Luke’s sits in a heritage conservation site, consideration of the potential heritage aspects of the building was required. Highly restrictive timeframes, restricted access and egress, restrictions on noise and live services above and below that could not be shut down.
The lower levels had wards and operating theatres which could not be interrupted.
The project management success of the refurbishment is reflected in the responsible $3.2 million budget achieved (ave. $160,000 per bed) and St Luke’s support of this case study. (Thanks St Luke’s).
