Thousands of dollars in water savings found for Resthaven’s SA residents

Former South Australian Retirement Village Residents Association (SARVRA) President Bob Ainsworth has won residents thousands of dollars in savings on water rates at Resthaven villages.

During research for SARVRA’s submission on retirement village valuation practices in the state, which ended up saving millions on residents’ water bills, Bob
(pictured) additionally discovered that eligible Not For Profit institutions like Resthaven’s villages may be entitled to 25% discounts on water consumption, with sewerage charges based not on property values but on the number of toilets at the village.

“Following discussions with Resthaven, coupled with the co-operation of SA Water, residents at Bob’s village, On Statenborough Leabrook, have recently obtained additional estimated annual savings of $37,000, this being 40.7% of the total village water rate bill.

“The savings backdated to July 2021 were returned to village residents by the government utility,” the association said.

Bob has indicated that similar discounts will apply to other Resthaven villages.
