Village management pride: when burst water main floods Oak Tree retirement village in Newcastle, village manager’s family steps in

1 min read

The main burst early last Thursday morning on Main Road in Cardiff, flooding around 10 homes at the village with one resident taken to hospital as a precaution after a fall.

Village manager Lyn Goodin-Collis was in Brisbane attending a conference when she woke to the news. But her husband came to the rescue and was already on site by 5am with her daughter offering food to affected residents.

“It’s awful when something like this happens when you’re not there, but we’ve had great back-up,” Ms Goodin-Collins said.

Ms Goodin-Collins also credited the assessors and Hunter Water with providing assistance throughout the process.
