WA: Building of MercyCare’s new $30M Maddington aged care home to start six years after first mooted

When WA Not For Profit provider MercyCare bought the privately-owned residential aged care operator Belrose Care Group in July 2016, it announced plans for a brand new aged care home in Maddington, 20km southeast of Perth’s CBD.

Two years later MercyCare lodged a development application and now four years later, it has announced EMCO Buildings will construct the new home with initial works on the 7,892sqm site to start this month and full construction to commence next month.

“We are confident EMCO will be able to deliver on our vision for a vibrant campus that can support our staff in the delivery of contemporary and compassionate care for 108 residents,” said MercyCare CEO Anthony Smith, in announcing EMCO as the builder.

The new aged care home, which will be built adjacent to the existing aged care home, is to be based on the small house model of care. It will have six “small houses” over two storeys.

“This evidence-based small house model gives residents the familiar feeling of home with easy access to a kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as that connection to gardens and a wellness hub,” said Mr Smith.

“Behind the scenes there is advanced technology and good design to support our staff to deliver best practice care.”
