AbiBird – out of the box thinking for village marketers to add resident value

1 min read

Two months ago we were approached by the client AbiBird. They told us two village operators in Perth were offering the AbiBird movement sensor as part of a new village customer package at the operator’s cost.

We were intrigued by the rationale.

AbiBird is a movement sensor that sends messages to a mobile phone (up to 50 mobile phones actually), which connects with an app that tells the phone owner if the movement activity in the village unit is normal or not.

The Perth village operators recognised that it would be cool for the children of the residents to know that their mum or dad was OK, meaning they were having a normal day or night.

If their daily pattern changed in any way they could pick up the phone and ring to check they are all right.

The operators recognised this engages the kids looking after mum and dad without cameras and other invasive technology.

It also gave the operators another layer on top of emergency call buttons of oversight without imposing on staff.

We ran an EDM yesterday to The SOURCE database with this proposition and another 14 operators so far have enquired how they can take AbiBird up as well.

From the village marketers position, AbiBird can be offered to residents and their families as a good initiative that they take up themselves. The cost is 70 cents a day (you can turn it off at any time) and it operates straight out of the box.

The kids get more involved with mum and dad’s welfare. The operator has another set of eyes watching out for residents at no cost.

If you are one of villages that has INS technology in your units (over 50,000 village homes do), the same principle exists for their telehealth services. Check INS out HERE.
