Aged care facility planned for new Greek Centre on the Yarra

The Greek community hub will be developed by the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) on a 2.6ha site in Bulleen and include aged care services, schools, community and function spaces, retail and hospitality spaces and sporting fields.

The GCM plan to sell one-sixth of the site for $11M to a developer for housing while the Centre will be built as part of a joint venture with a third party to be sought to fund the rest of the construction.

General Secretary Costas Markos says the new aged care facility will “assist immensely to the current lack of facilities and services for the elderly within our community.”

The GCM will still have to find staff however. In 2014, Melbourne’s Fronditha Care became the first aged care provider to receive approval to recruit foreign workers for its Greek-speaking residents.
