Aged Care Royal Commission publishes next round of submissions – only families and staff, no providers

1 min read

An insight into how the Commissioners came to conclude that Australia’s aged care system was “a shocking tale of neglect”.

Following its recent announcement that it would begin publishing submissions from organisations and the public, the Royal Commission has published 53 submissions – 33 or 60% anonymous – received in February 2019 on their website.

You can read them here.

It is worth noting that none of the submissions – apart from a few from GPs and academics – are from providers.

Almost all are from family members, carers and aged care staff talking about their experiences – mostly negative – with the aged care system in Australia.

Of course, the Royal Commission reserves the right about which submissions it publishes – but it is interesting to see that the perspective – so far – seems to be based on the public.

Will we see more submissions from providers published in the future – and will COVID-19 have affected how the Commissioners view providers when the Royal Commission resumes its proceedings?
