Byron Bay homeowners put forward affordable housing for seniors

1 min read

Saddle Road resident Matthew ‘Cleva’ O’Reilly has lodged an expression of interest (EOI) for 22 self-contained villa-style seniors’ units, along with a senior’s hostel with 40 one-bedroom units, on the five-hectare property he manages.

Byron Bay Council had invited landowners to submit EOIs for affordable housing projects.

As a condition of approval, rents would be capped at an average of 36% of the average Byron Shire weekly income and the village would also provide an annual report to Council showing the leases, rental rates and lease terms during the previous financial year.

It follows a similar affordable housing project lodged by five other landowners between Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads.

Will any of them make it off the drawing board though?
