Consumer advocacy gets aggressive: VRG’s Justin Harrison engages lawyers over defamatory comments, says The Courier Mail

As we reported here last year, the Village Retirement Group purchased the site of the North Lakes Golf Club (26 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD) to build a 200-unit retirement village and three-storey aged care facility on 11ha of the land.

VRG Managing Director, Justin Harrison (pictured), last told the paper he will close the golf course down since it has become “unprofitable” and intends on opening the land not included in the development proposal to the public – creating 56ha of “green space”.

However, locals have pushed back against the plans – with actions including a 200-person protest, and a Facebook page (Save North Lakes Golf Course) with over 1,700 supporters.
Some protestors of the development have even reportedly used social media to make allegedly defamatory comments – which have forced VRG to engage lawyers and demand an apology.
