DCM Institute participant Nikki Dhawan (pictured) has been named Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) Retirement Manager of the Year 2021.

Three of the four finalists were participants in the DCM Institute, our professional development village management program, which has entered into a joint venture with The New Zealand Retirement Villages Association to take the program to its operators.

Ms Dhawan manages Bethanie Warwick and Bethanie Joondanna retirement villages, which are 20km north-northwest and 7km northwest of the Perth CBD in WA, respectively.

“Nikki has developed a strong sense of community and trust amongst residents since joining Bethanie in 2015 and has made significant improvements to five of Bethanie’s 11 Retirement Village sites,” said LASA Retirement Living and Seniors Housing Principal Advisor, Paul Murphy.

LASA General Manager Policy and Advocacy Tim Hicks said Nikki was an outstanding example of leadership in providing the best experience for older Australians living in a retirement village.

“Age services and in particular Retirement Living thrive on the connection to community and Nikki Dhawan shows how a good leader can develop and maintain that sense of community so that residents remain engaged,” said Mr Hicks, acknowledging the final other finalists – Lyn Ferguson, Stephen Pether and Julie Renshaw.

Ms Ferguson, manager of Bethanie Elanora in Bunbury, 170km south of Perth, and Ms Renshaw, manager of RSL Lifecare’s Long Khanh Lakefront Village, in Canton Beach, on the NSW Central Coast, NSW, are also participants of the DCM Institute.
