The Western Australian operator, which runs aged care communities and a portfolio spanning disability support and paraquad services, looks set to expand into retirement living.

The first stage of Alinea’s $40 million redevelopment with two five- and three-storey buildings, containing 46 independent living apartments, in Shenton Park, 4km west of Perth’s CBD, has been recommended for approval by the state’s Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel.

The redevelopment includes two one-bedroom apartments, 14 two-bedroom apartments and 30 three-bedroom apartments. The plan also features a single-storey “clubhouse” with a function space, gym, art studio and spa, as well as 85 car bays comprised of 65 resident bays, 10 staff bays and 10 visitor bays.

Element Advisory, on behalf of Alinea, said the development is on 1.9ha of land currently occupied by the operator’s Quadriplegic Centre, which planning documents state has reached the end of its serviceable life and is now earmarked for renewal.

Planning documents describe the proposal as the first step in a wider multi-stage redevelopment, which allows for a maximum building height of eight storeys.
